Day 1: Kigali city tour
Arrive early enough and be briefed by our experienced driver guide on what your 6 day Rwanda primate safari is all about. After, drive from Kigali International Airport to a hotel of your choice and later, set off for a city tour in Kigali. Depending on the time of your arrival, the sites to pay a visit include the Kigali genocide memorial site and the craft market Kandt museum among others. Afterward, drive back to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay
Day 2: Drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Have breakfast early in the morning and later; embark on a road trip to southwestern Rwanda to Nyungwe Forest National Park which is about 6 hours drive from Kigali. En-route, make a stopover at Nyanza prior to getting to Huye for a city tour which offers you a chance to pay a visit to the King’s palace. Have lunch in Huye or Nyanza and then drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest National Park
Have breakfast and after, join other visitors at Chanika reception center for morning briefing on the set dos and don’ts for chimpanzee tracking. Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest National Park begins from either Uwinka or Cyamudongo trail. Nyungwe Forest National Park is a home to 13 primate species including over 500 chimpanzees that make it one of the best destinations for chimpanzee tracking, red tailed monkeys, Ruwenzori colobus monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, grey cheeked mangabeys, silver monkeys among others. There are also about 310 bird species most of which can easily be spotted while on chimpanzee trek. After the 1 hour of magical encounter, return to the lodge to have lunch and some rest. In the afternoon, embark on a canopy walk along the 50 meters’ suspended trail which gets you the exceptional sights at varied primate species, birds, trees and plants.
Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Have enjoyable breakfast early in the morning and after, set off to Volcanoes National Park which is located northwestern Rwanda. En-route, have the best of breathtaking sceneries from the rolling hills that make this country a true land of a thousand hills. Arrive early enough to check in at a lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Gorilla trekking and Iby’Iwacu cultural village
Your 6 days Rwanda primate safari starts with breakfast early in the morning and after, you gather at Volcanoes National Park headquarters at Kinigi where you will be briefed on the set dos and don’ts that you have to observe. This primate adventure offers you a chance to track 1 habituated gorilla family and within 1 hour, you have the best of magical encounter with a group of mountain gorillas while in their natural habitat. Gorilla trekking is one of the amazing wildlife experiences and it may take you about 2 to 6 hours with an hour of face to face encounter. To be part of this life changing adventure, make sure that you have some packed lunch/snacks, bottled water and right gear for gorilla trekking. After, return to the lodge to have rest and if time allows, embark on a community walk to Iby’Iwacu cultural village for cultural exploration which gets you the best cultural dances, music performances. Later, return to have rest, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Visit Iby’Iwacu cultural village
The classic Rwanda primate safaris begins with breakfast and later, pay a visit to Iby’Iwacu cultural village. This allows you to learn more about Rwandans unique cultures, traditions, lifestyles, dances and music performances. After, embark on a return journey to Kigali and this marks the end of your 6 days Rwanda primate adventure.
