Day 1: Travel up-to Volcanoes N/Park-Northern Province after City Tour
Have the best of a leisurely cup of coffee/tea and after, vacate the lodge to begin a day with Kigali city tour. On your Kigali expedition, areas of interest include visiting the Kigali/Gisozi Genocide Site to have historical experience of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide; visit some of the best craft markets/shops in Kigali and other sites. About 2 hours shall be spent exploring Kigali city, one of the safest and cleanest cities in the world.
Have lunch in one of the best hotels or restaurants and after, vacate Kigali Capital City for Volcanoes National Park (VNP), about 2 to 3 hours’ drive. The park lies in Ruhengeri-The Northern Province of Rwanda. Arrive early to have adequate rest well-prepared for the next day’s main primate adventure-Gorilla Trekking. In the evening if time allows depending on your arrival, a cultural trip can be undertaken in the Iby’Iwacu Village then you return to retire for the night in the lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & return to Kigali Capital City-Rwanda
Join other visitors at Kinigi for briefing on Gorilla Tracking rules after you have enjoyed your hefty breakfast. By 7:00am, everyone is expected to be at Kinigi not only for briefing but also to be allocated to a gorilla group, park guide to lead you all through your gorilla trek. Only one of the 13 gorilla groups already habituated in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park shall be trekked by maximum of 8 visitors.
Trekking with mountain gorillas in Volcanoes N/Park is unpredictable experience and usually, it takes 3-6 hours including the unmissable 1 hour of close encounter with mountain gorillas and photography. Return afterwards, meet your driver guide ready to get back to Kigali in the hotel/airport if the flight is scheduled in the evening.
